Ear piercing for migraine relief?
I have been asked by several people for my opinion as an acupuncturist about Daith piercings for migraines. In fact, I was just asked today, so I figured it was time for a blog post!
Daith piercings are done in the center cartilage of the ear. It’s in the area called the “helix root” in ear acupuncture speak. It’s kind of close to the acupuncture point we call “Point Zero,” which is great for bringing the whole body back into balance. Point Zero also enhances the effects of other acupuncture points.
My response to everyone who has asked me so far is this:
I would say get acupuncture from a licensed acupuncturist. Headaches and migraines can vary, even for the same person who gets them – theirs might not be the same each time, so the acupuncture points may need to be different as well.
Piercing may work but I suggest acupuncture first. For self-care at home, there are acupressure seed kits with charts from earseeds.com that people can do on their own or have a friend apply them.
